Truly a great experience. from the moment one walks in, the staff is there for you, very personable approach, making one feel at home immediately. Our waitress was "cheeky" fun, while knowledgable about the menu. Staff works together as a team, with a smile at all times. Manager knows how to run the front of the house and checks in with the table as well as jumping in where needed to ensure a smooth "goings on" We went for the tasting menu. The Black Origin Wagyu Carpacchio appetizer was otherwordly. Flavour full, well presented and in a abundant quantity for 2 people. Superb! Tajin Oyster Mushrooms were cripsily fried, served over a bed of Garlic Creme Freche, *roasted. Accented with Pino Cherries, Crispy Capers and Micro Basil. Wonderful Main courses consisted of a Wagye NY Strip Steak *US or what here is called Sirloin Steak. Normally served medium rare. We asked if it could be rare. When served it was rare and absolutely perfect. High quality meat prepared expertly! The Grouper dish was the "mystery item". Absolutely delicious and again a generous portion, both dishes beautifully presented. The wine pairing by the sommelier was superb and she was able to give us background on the wines and reasons why this pairing was chosen. Again, very personable, non pretentious and delivered in a fun manner. This review looks like a commercial, yet it's not. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening spent at The Monday Room, might be back b4 leaving Christchurch for the lamb dish... Location is a bit of the beaten path...... Yet another reason to go!
Wow wow wow! Thanks for an amazing evening! Service 10/10, lamb shoulder 10/10, and really delicious sides such as the potatoes, cucumber salad, and mushrooms. The portions were also big, the lamb could easily have been shared among three people. The only thing we agreed wasn’t great was the watermelon tartare, it tasted almost like taco salsa? We would have preferred it to be fresher with lots of lime. But other than that, we were super happy and will definitely come back!
Of all the places we ate in New Zealand, this our easy, absolute favorite. The food was out of this world! The potatoes with sour cream and chili were so good it almost felt wrong. The ribeye was perfect. There was a fried mushroom, calamari like dish that was amazing. For desert we had the Hokey Pokey which is somehow gluten free and dairy free. I was skeptical it could be good without either dairy/gluten, but Jimmy said trust me and he was right. What made the night was our server Jimmy. He had great stories about the restaurant’s history and gave spot on recs for places to check out next. Dinner was genuinely special. Highly recommend.
